Kids First services
Healthy smiles begin with small, steady habits. Our board-certified pediatric dental team helps children and adolescents prevent problems before they grow — with care that fits their age, risk level, and comfort.
A patient-first approach
Preventive care is more than a cleaning every six months. It is a chance to watch how teeth and jaws are developing, notice risks early, and give families practical guidance they can use at home.
Kids First serves Zanesville families and those who travel from Newark, Cambridge, Coshocton, Lancaster, New Lexington, and surrounding southeast Ohio communities. We do not just fix teeth. We treat the patient.
What this care means
The right preventive plan changes from a first tooth to school years to adolescence. We adjust recommendations as your child grows.
We explain what we see, why it matters, and the simplest next step — without assuming every family has the same routine or risk.
When we spot a concern early, care is often simpler and more comfortable than waiting until a tooth hurts.

A gentle cleaning does more than polish a smile. It removes buildup, helps us spot changes early, and gives your child repeated proof that a dental visit can feel calm and manageable.
Back teeth have deep grooves that can trap food and bacteria even when a child brushes carefully. Sealants create a smooth protective barrier over those chewing surfaces.
Fluoride strengthens tooth enamel and helps a growing smile resist cavities. A professional treatment is quick, simple, and tailored to a child’s individual risk.
Good home care is not about perfection. It is about a routine a family can repeat. We give children and parents age-appropriate tools for brushing, flossing, food choices, and healthy habits.
A well-fitting mouthguard is a simple layer of protection for active children and teens. It can help cushion teeth, lips, tongue, and jaw during sports and recreational activity.
Some children and teens clench or grind their teeth, especially during sleep. A night guard may be one part of a plan to protect teeth and support a more comfortable jaw.
For preventive care
Every recommendation starts with the whole child — their health, comfort, development, and family — not just the tooth in front of us.
Dr. Robert Malek is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, a voluntary credential earned through specialty residency and examination.
We do not just fix teeth. We treat the patient — taking time to understand comfort, development, health history, and what will make the visit work for your family.
Our Zanesville office welcomes children and adolescents from Newark, Cambridge, Coshocton, Lancaster, New Lexington, and surrounding communities.
Helpful answers
Many children benefit from preventive visits about every six months. Dr. Malek may recommend a different interval based on cavity risk, development, or treatment needs.
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a first dental visit by age one or within six months after the first tooth appears.
A visit may include an examination, age-appropriate cleaning, oral-hygiene guidance, fluoride when indicated, and imaging only when clinically appropriate.
